NEW FREQUENCIES is a small festival within a festival. The final weekend of SPIELART is dedicated entirely to new voices within the international theatre landscape: over two days, we are presenting a dense programme of final-year projects and debut works.
What emerges here is the enormous variety and diversity of these artistic positions: the performances last between 15 minutes and a scheduled three hours; the formal spectrum extends from the well-made play, to lecture and storytelling formats, through to participatory performance and a rock concert executed by puppets. In terms of content too, the pieces could hardly be more different from one another: whereas some of the works are extremely personal and autobiographical, others focus on political and historical facts and events or engage in a debate with traditions. The artists’ positions range from fury and despair in the face of a political present that is out of joint, to pointed social criticism, through to moments that instil a sense of community, manifesting budding social utopias.
We invite you to experience this mosaic of voices. You can see the whole programme with the NEW FREQUENCIES subscription (“NEW FREQUENCIES-Abo”). At the NEW FREQUENCIES brunch on Sunday 10 November, there will be an opportunity to talk to the artists.
